Since MAXAM commenced its operations in 1872, research, development and innovation have been key elements in our evolution and in our contribution as a driving force to the progress of society and its surroundings.
MAXAM's policy on R&D states that the ownership of our technologies (technological innovation and their rapid application) is a basic asset providing added value to the company. By having our own R&D teams, we are able to develop and make use of our own technologies thereby ensuring technological independence and also enabling us to design strategic plans with full independence, in addition to being a differentiating and competitive factor. R&D is the clearest way to maintain the competitive edge and strategic advances of technical interest as displayed by MAXAM´s offering of a wide range of products and technical advice.
The importance given to R&D in MAXAM leads us to having a centralized structure from which to plan and carry out continuous innovation in products and processes for all our areas of activity. These include the following:
- Conventional explosives: dynamites, ANFO and powder explosives.
- Water-based explosives: emulsions and water gels.
- Gunpowder and propellants: hunting powders, military powders, compound propellants and black powders.
- High explosives: pentrite, insensitive ammunition, PBX, special applications for explosive products.
- Initiation systems: electric detonators, hunting primers, initiation systems for the Defence Business Area.
- Chemistry and synthesis: chemical support for all areas, synthesis of explosive molecules, nitro-chemicals.
- Technological developments in the areas of safety and environment.
